Choosing a photographer can be quite a challenge! It's hard to know just by looking at a website who the best fit will be for you and your family. In my experience, you should look for these four things, before making your final decision:

  1. Someone who consistently produces the kind of quality image that catches your eye, draws you in, and makes you stop and say "wow". This is your "vision". When a client and a photographer have the same vision, the end result can be truly magical.

  2. Someone who specializes in your niche. (For example, you probably wouldn't want to hire a sports photographer for a newborn session). I specialize in the following areas:
    •Senior Portraits & Young Adults
    •Engagement & Couples
    •Maternity, Newborn & Infant
    •Children & Families
    •Professional Headshots

  3. Someone whose personality will bring out the best in your family. To be a photographer, you have to posses patience, kindness and gentleness. This is what I want to be known for, even more than for being a great photographer! As a wife, a mom/step-mom of 5 boys, and a former foster parent, I understand the stress of picture day. Kids are unpredictable, and husbands usually aren't jumping for joy! Have you ever been to a big chain portrait studio? 20 minutes in and out with tired and fussy little ones? Then high pressure sales tactics that leave you with just mediocre pictures? No thank you! My goal is to make our time together as relaxing and stress free as possible. That's why at booking, we reserve your session date, AND a rain check date. This gives us peace of mind that if the weather isn't ideal, or the little ones just weren't having it, we have a backup plan. I will also ask in your pre-session questionnaire what your family's favorite snacks and drinks are, and then bring it along to our shoot. We will also discuss location, theme or props, and outfits ahead of time so that we capture exactly what you're envisioning. I also use a professional printing lab to ensure that your portraits are displayed with the finest quality materials.

  4. And lastly, when selecting a photographer, look for someone who falls within your necessary price range. Portrait photography is an investment that you are making for your family, but let's face it, we all have a budget to stay within! I do want to caution you, that simply looking for the cheapest photographer you can find will leave you disappointed in the end. Unfortunately, there's no industry standard on who can call themselves a photographer, and many who claim to be, have no training or experience, just a digital camera. I've spent years studying the art of portraiture, lighting, composition and post-processing and am constantly investing in professional equipment and professional development to better my skill set and final products. I am also a proud "aspiring member" of the Professional Photographers of America, and am a registered LLC Business in the state of Missouri.

So to recap, when looking for your ideal photographer, just remember:

Vision, Specialty, Personality, Price Range
